How to make money using Pinterest (Step by Step)

In this post I’m going to show you a simple Pinterest marketing strategy that allows you to quickly and easily build up a huge account, to the point where you can have thousands of “niche” related followers to drive traffic, backlinks and sales to your website.

12

Pinterest

is absolutely huge and has over 150 million monthly users, in my opinion one of the world’s largest source of completely free traffic. If you’re not already using Pinterest for your business’s online marketing then… WELL, you are completely missing out!

In this post you will learn:

  • How to get traffic from Pinterest.
  • How to get more Pinterest followers than you know what do with.
  • How to use Pinterest for SEO and backlinks.
  • How to make money with Pinterest!

Here’s some stats about exactly who uses Pinterest according to expandedramblings.com This will give you an idea of what type of target audience’s Pinterest has:

  • Pinterest users are mostly women. Around 85% of all users are female.
  • Number of monthly Pinterest users outside the US: 80 Million
  • Percentage of Pinterest users that are millennials: 67%
  • Examples of niches that perform well on Pinterest are cooking, fashion, health & weightloss, kids & baby items and home & gardening.

Here are 3 easy steps to help you build up your Pinterest account, fast!

Step 1: Set up your Pinterest account

1

  • Visit the Pinterest home page at pinterest.com
  • Click on “Sign up with Email.” If you want Pinterest linked with your Facebook account, click instead on “Sign up with Facebook.
  • Type your Pinterest profile information into the fields provided. …
  • Click on “Sign up.”
  • Add a profile picture.

Step 2: Search Pinterest for your niche

2

On the search tab on the top of your profile, search for your niche. My niche is related to photography, So I search for this to see a list of other people that have Pinterest accounts related to my field. I then select the subcategory “People.” Here I can see photography related accounts. Now all I need to do is follow all the niche related accounts.

3

5

TIP…Click through onto the profiles of accounts with a lot of followers. This photography account has over 2,700 followers. From here click onto the followers button to see a list of the account’s followers, because all of these people are following a photography related account it’s safe to assume that they like photography, so I follow these accounts.

These people will be extremely likely to follow your account and share your content. To get these people to follow your account all you need to do is follow them first. Go through the list and follow them one by one, many will follow you back. You can follow up to 300 people at a time.

6

If you spend a few minutes doing this everyday until you have followed 10,000 or so people, by this stage you should have atleast 2,000 real niche related followers that are interested in your content. Your account will also start to grow organically as people naturally find your Pinterest account.

Step 3: Pin lots of content

78910

11

Every time you add a new piece of content to your account, make sure you have a nice big image on that post. Just upload a pin with that image, with a link to your website aswell. When ever you submit content to Pinterest you get a “backlink” from a huge authority site, when someone repins your content, that link gets posted to their profile and they too give you a backlink.

If you post content that get’s repined 20 times, this means it has been reposted to 20 different profiles and you just scored 20 new backlinks to your website, you also benefit from the free traffic and this leads to sales too, especially if you are targeting a niche that’s popular on Pinterest like fashion, health or cooking etc.

You can also submit YouTube videos to your Pinterest account, if you have a channel you can get backlinks, views and subscribers by using this method. The more you share out content, the more people will find your account and repost your content.

How To Buy Your First Camera On A Budget

Buying the right first camera is something all photographers have to go through. It’s almost always a question of money. How much should I spend vs how much I can spend. In this post I will share with you my process of buying a new affordable camera.

1

Whether you are a beginner or an professional photographer you’ll always be faced with the challenge of adding something new to your inventory. This advice is for purchases where it’s not easy to make a quick decision. For someone looking for that perfect camera with the best price, megapixels, aperture, ISO sensitivity and the best frame rate (fps) for high speed shooting.

My first camera

2

When I got my first camera in 2005, it was a Canon 350D with a 18-55mm kit lens. This was definitely the first true entry-level DSLR. I didn’t want it with the 18-55mm kit lens though, I really wanted something more professional like the Canon 70-200mm f4.

Looking back today, that lens would have been too difficult for me to learn basic photography skills, plus the price alone was equivalent to 3 x Canon 350D bodies & 3 x 18-55mm kit lenses.

“No Ways!”… Months after buying my 350D, I realised something really important.

Moving from a mobile/smartphone camera isn’t just about getting more megapixels. It’s all about control. Any camera that can give you plenty of control to change your aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and white balance with interchangeable lenses is a great option for a beginner.

Kit lens

A lens is one of the most important pieces of camera equipment for a photographer. A good lens, well kept, should last you many years, in most cases longer than any camera body would. That’s why the professionals spend thousands on “glass”, and why there is so much talk about which lens (or lenses) are the best for you.

Most kit lenses are affordable simply because the manufacturers are in competition with each other to have the most reasonably priced camera kits, to do this they create inexpensive kit lenses. A kit lens is great to start with, and you can always buy other, better quality lenses once you’ve outgrown it.

“Guess What!”…If you have a kit lens USE IT AS A KIT LENS! The 18-55mm is a moderate wide-angle lens that is great for landscapes, architecture and environmental portraiture. The 55mm end on this short telephoto lens is great for zooming in on detail.

Your kit lens is probably a much better lens than you give it credit for, but as with every lens it has shortcomings. At some point you will bump into these limitations. However this is not a bad thing, it simply means that you’re at the stage where you are ready to take the training wheels off and you want to take better photos.

Here are my steps to buying a new affordable camera.

Step 1: What is the pain you need solve?

3

This is the first step if you already have made a camera purchase, but you are now speculating if you would have better results with a new one.

The tools we use should help to solve the pain we have. There are times I bought new camera equipment thinking ill get better results with it.”BUT…”

This wasn’t the right strategy. What you need to know is, what the limitations of your current gear? If you don’t know them, you may have not reached them, maybe you don’t need a new camera just yet.

Step 2: Do your research

When doing your research on what camera to get, you first need to ask yourself the following question.

What field of photography interests me?

Here’s a great infographic courtesy of photographyconcentrate.com to help you see the different fields within photography.

infographic-31-ways-to-make-money-as-a-photographer

Picking your field of interest early on will help you to identify what type of camera equipment you should invest in.

For me my interest lies in Travel Photography.

I then do a quick Google search for any names that come up first under the term “The Best Travel Photographer.” The first name Google pops up is “Colby Brown.” Great photographer by the way “check out his website” I then procceed to Colby Brown’s website and start “snooping” around.

What do the professionals in my field use? What do they say I should use?

On the website I found Colby Brown’s blog, A blog is a good way to find out what equipment the professionals in your chosen field are using. After scrolling through a few articles I find exactly what I’m looking for. A post on “25 Tips For Getting The Most Out Of Your Sony a6300.” I then read this interesting article and did some more digging. The Sony a6300 is Colby Brown’s camera of preference at the moment.

5

“In the last few years, no company has continued to push the boundaries of what we thought was possible as Sony has with their full frame mirrorless & APS-C cameras. Because of this, many photographers are flocking to Sony and finding themselves not only trying to learn a new camera but a menu system as well.” – Colby Brown

After reading this article I decided that I want the Sony a6300, so I went onto Amazon to find out the price.

“WHAT! Over $1000, NVM…” which then brings me to my next question.

What is the entry level version of what the professionals are using?

4

I then headed back to Google “what is the best entry level Sony Alpha” I asked. On the first page I found an interesting “Sony Alpha a58 Review.”

“Sony is a newcomer to the entry-level DSLR scene, but since its market entry in 2005, it has managed to produce some of the best ones available. Sony’s latest offering, the Alpha a58, has excellent image quality, a robust feature set and an attractive price point for budding photographers.” – toptenreviews.com

After reading this informative review I then head back to Amazon to check the price of the Sony a58.

The Sony a58 with an 18-55mm kit lens will cost you under $450 on Amazon and it “offers the basic features you’d expect from an entry-level DSLR and a couple of extras that beginners can appreciate. There are nine scene modes to choose from that help to optimize image composition for a variety of circumstances like portraits, landscapes, nights or sunsets. Learning to shoot manually grants you access to the camera’s full potential, but these settings are helpful for getting the best results in auto-shooting modes”. – toptenreviews.com

Step 3: Get what you can afford

4

My advice is that, you only buy what you can afford without breaking the bank. Buy quality products from quality brands. It is much better to get an older version of a good camera, than a brand new cheap – waste of time and money camera.

Note, though there are always products more expensive and that can do a better job. You need not lead the pack. You just need the best product for the job. Do not be tricked by those extras that more expensive camera have. Do your research! Get a camera with features that you’ll use on a daily basis.

3 ways to stand out from the many blogs out there

A lot of people never take that first step towards making their blogging dreams come true simply because, they think “there are just too many blogs out there.”

2
“I GET IT!” Just search on Google or look on YouTube, you are hit with thousands upon thousands of blogs, vlogs & reviews covering every possible niche and topic out there, it’s easy to think that there is no place for you, there’s too much competition, and you’ll just be another unseen page online. I will answer 3 questions in my post that will help you stand out from the many other blogs…

  1. How do I pick a low competition niche for my blog?
  2. How do I pick a niche that I am passionate about and still be different?
  3. How do I earn money from posting better content on my blog?

Blogging seems like a good idea in theory, and you’ll never compete with the big names, right?

WRONG! “Superstar Blogger” Nomadic Matt told me to “think of blogging like opening a restaurant.”

New ones pop up and old ones die just as fast. The best restaurant owner believes “there are a lot of places already — but I can do it better.” That’s the winning mentality to have when blogging. Sure, there might be a lot that exist already, but the world always wants more quality places. It always wants that amazing new restaurant.” says Nomadic Matt.

Now imagine your blog like this restaurant owner, how can you do things better? What’s your signature dish (expertise)? How can you create a better and more unique experience?

1. How do I pick a low competition niche for my blog?

11

A niche according to businessdictionary.com is “A small but profitable segment of a market suitable for focused attention by a marketer.” In this case the marketer is you with your blog.

Choosing the right niche before you start out is so important! It literally makes the difference between being seen and being overlooked online.

Pick a niche that people are searching for!

If no body is typing your niche into Google, no matter how good your content is you still won’t get any traffic because nobody is even looking for your niche.

To make sure people are interested in your niche, use a keyword tool like Google AdWords to see how many people are searching your niche.

Google AdWords

Allows you to type a word or phrase to see roughly how may times that word or phrase gets searched for in the search engine every month.

A good rule of thumb is to look for a niche with no less than 1000 searches a month and no more that 50 000 searches a month. Generally the less searches a niche gets the less competition and the easier it will be for your blog to rank well in Google. If your niche has hundreds of millions of results when you search it, that’s a not a good sign. “FIND A LOW COMPETITION NICHE..!”

2. How do I pick a niche that I am passionate about and still be different?

3

Though it’s fair to say that you should post about things that you are passionate about but, find an angle that’s different to the rest in your niche. Think outside the box, don’t just go with what everyone else is saying or doing. Most Travel Photographers talk about their own travels on their blogs but, I have chosen to blog about things that no body else in my niche is really focusing on. “Teaching Beginner Photographers – basics, tips & tricks to get paid to travel.

3. How do I earn money from posting better content on my blog?

4

The trick here is to build a simple but ridiculously profitable blog. HOW..?

“SIMPLE!” If Google ranks you higher than the other blogs in your niche, readers will find your blog first. Rankings result in thousands of visitors finding your blog, reading and engaging with your content.

How do I monetise my blog so I get paid for my content?

Affiliate links are a great way to monetise the content on your blog. “An affiliate link is a specific URL that contains the affiliate’s ID or username. In affiliate programs, advertisers use affiliate links to record the traffic that is sent to the advertiser’s website. This action is all part of an affiliate program.” – techopedia.com. Amazon has a great FREE to join affiliate program that I myself use to sell the products I love and I earn a commission while doing so.”

Pick a niche that people actually buy stuff from!

Choose something based of a product that people are actually buying online, on my blog I advise beginner photographers, I know when you starting out you need help buying affordable things that you can use in order to get better at your craft quickly therefore, I promote photography books and essential tools for beginner photographers.

It’s important to note that you can still rank for and make money from your blog even if it’s in a competitive niche, in fact it’s unlikely you’ll ever find a niche with zero competitors. The whole point is to look for niches with little competition. The internet and the world are big enough for all of us to make money from the same niches.

“Now you can stop looking at the blogging and going “I can’t do it.” Look at the field and go “I CAN DO IT BETTER!”

You may still be thinking “What can I add to the mix?  Who would want to listen to me?”

The answers are: your story — and a lot of people.” –  Nomadic Matt

Your stories, expert advice and passions are unique to you, and that’s all you need to stand out from the crowd!

5 Cameras Best Suited For Vlogging.

Vlogging is the next big thing in the blogosphere! Here’s a list of my top 5 cameras to help you keep up in this new segment of blogging.

main

What is Vlogging?

In laymen’s terms, blogging using video, a video blog if you may. Over the years bloggers have included video content in their blogs. However, vlogging is becoming more popular as camera equipment and internet connection becomes cheaper and more accessible. Anyone with a video-capable camera and a decent computer with a high-speed connection can essentially create a vlog, publish and distribute it online.

BUT!, If you want that professional look and feel the “Superstar Bloggers” have in their videos, you will definitely need a proper camera. So…

What is the best camera suited for my vlog?

The best place to start is, think about where you’ll be filming – indoors or out & about?

If you are filming yourself indoors you can consider getting a camera with a flip-up screen, this will make it easier for you to check out your shots while shooting. If you are filming outdoors like me, you need a camera with image stabilisation, wind reduction and waterproofing.  Other features you may want to consider for your camera are built-in wifi, 4K recording, battery life and weight.

Here’s my list of the 5 best cameras to kick-start your vlogging career.

1. GoPro Hero 5 Black

1

In my opinion as a travel photographer, the GoPro HERO5 Black Edition offers the best vlogging performance. This ultimate action camera is everything the previous versions whern’t, improved functionality and video/picture quality make it easier to record and distribute your vlog adventures.

Perfect for outdoor filming, the the The GoPro HERO5 Black is the smallest and lightest camera on my list but, it packs 4K video recording, image stabilisation, voice control and has built-in waterproofing.  The downside is that the touchscreen interface is often a bit slow, audio volume sometimes changes mid-clip. But still, it’s an all-in-one package for a serious vlogger.

“Buy Now.”

2. Canon G7X Mk II

2

A Compact, lightweight, high-performance camera with a large 1-inch 20.1 Megapixel sensor with astonishing low light capability and spectecular colour accuracy. The Canon G7X Mk II Includes a flip-up screen to help compose your shots, built-in wifi and wind noise reduction for those windy environments.

The best part is that it’s a very simple camera to use if you a beginner with very limited skills. A downside however is that it lacks the option of interchangeable lenses, 4K video recording and a waterproof body would have been nice.

”Buy Now.”

3. Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX15

3

With not much differences between the LX15 and Sony RX100 Mk IV at first glance – the two camera’s look the same with most of features being similar, the LX15 addition of a touchscreen and a significantly lower price. makes this a great buy, It holds it’s own against the RX100.

The downside is that the autofocus isn’t quite as quick and accurate as it should be but, the video and audio quality is slightly better than the RX100 in real-world conditions. It performs well indoors, keeping the focus sharp and producing clear audio.

“Buy Now.”

4. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 Mk IV

4

At the top end of the price range for smaller cameras, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 IV features some impressive capabilities such as a 24 fps continuous shooting speed, 4K video recording and 960 fps slow motion recording.

The idea with this camera is to challenge the much bulkier DSLRs. It has a flip-up screen which is great for seeing what you filming while you shooting. The downside however is that, it too much like the Canon G7X Mk II lacks the option of interchangeable lenses and a waterproof body.

“Buy Now.”

5. Nikon D3400

5

Not just a cheap DSLR camera  – The Nikon D3400 is basic but great. It’s not the most expensive entry-level DSLR, but I think it’s great for vlogging. This is also a very easy camera to live with.

Its clever Guide Mode is a useful learning tool that gives real-time explanations of important features. It’s compatible with Nikon’s interchangeable lenses, whilst it comes standard with an 18-55mm kit lens which is great when you’re on the go.

The D3400 can also be connected wirelessly to your smartphone or tablet which is ideal for vloggers. The downside is the lack of a flip-out screen, so there’s some guesswork when vlogging by yourself. Unlike the 4 point and shoot camera’s I’ve discussed on my list, some basic video skills are required when operating a DSLR camera.

“Buy Now.”

In closing, because vlogging is open to so many factors, which camera is best for you ultimately comes down to how you will use it. If travelling light, extreme sports and splash-heavy activity is your thing, the GoPro Hero 5 Black is definitely the right camera for the job. To capture crisp, professional-looking videos at home, go for the Canon G7X Mk II, an all-rounder for making films with minimal video skills.

Here’s are the secrets of a successful blog according to “Superstar Blogger” Nomadic Matt.

  • “Be niche – Focus on what you know best and you’ll carve out a little kingdom on the web. Always choose to be the big fish in a small pond.
  • Be different – Don’t be like every other blog. Find your own style. Combine your passions.
  • Zig when people zag – Continuing on that idea, the best way to break into a field is to do the opposite of conventional wisdom.
  • Be detailed – To quote Denzel Washington from Philadelphia, “explain it like they are a five-year-old.” This will set your content apart from everyone else who writes thin, personal posts.
  • Network like crazy – The best way to grow your online business is to network with people across various industries and niches.
  • Don’t stop learning – The surest way to fail is to think you know everything and never keep learning.
  • Help people – Time is a precious commodity, but the more you help people, the more people will help you. Always be giving.
  • Create a work schedule – Create a weekly schedule where you only focus on one or two important tasks per day.
  • Create products – All businesses sell something. Having something you sell allows you to create revenue and make money with your site!
An ebook, phone consulting, tours, other people’s books, or, heck, even T-shirts!
  • Remember, you aren’t Superman – It may seem like you have to do it all — you’re the writer, editor, marketer, coder, designer, and everything in between. But you don’t. You aren’t Superman. Don’t feel you are in a rush. The pressures you put on yourself are just that — on yourself. Outsource work you don’t love or aren’t good at.” – Nomadic Matt

10. Visit your Settings page to tweak the date/time options, comment settings, and permalink structures.

11.Browse through the huge array of Plugins for special add-ons and features.

5 Reasons Why You Should Become A Travel Photographer.

“Superstar Bloggers” are making 6-figure incomes from practically blogging about things they love doing. This is how you can do it too!

1) Drive traffic to your Superstar Website!

Every time you post, You’re creating content that people can share on social networks — Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Flickr, Tumblr — Superstar Bloggers have found ways to turn this into value and keep their social media presence going and growing.

Blogs drive new traffic to your websites landing page. Because it works closely with search engines and social media, it is now very easy to track your progress.

2) Turn traffic into value!

Let’s assume you now have traffic coming to your website from your Superstar Blog, you have an opportunity to convert this traffic into value.

  • Visitors are coming to your website.
  • Visitors see call-to-action to your lead magnet (Exclusive content only given to subscribers.)
  • Visitors click call-to-action and get to your landing page, this contains a form for them to fill in with their details.
  • Visitors fill out forms, submit information, and receive the lead magnet.

3) Establish yourself as a Superstar Blogger!

The best Superstar Blogs answer this 1 common question that all their leads have.

  • Is this content helpful to me?

Answering this question with your blog content will help establish you as an authority in their eyes.

This is a particularly handy sales tool for Superstar Bloggers.
If your leads find answers to their common question via your blog posts. They’re much more likely to become customers as well as “free sales people” for your services & products.Trusting what you have to say because you’ve helped them broaden their knowledge — even before they were interested in purchasing anything from you.

Leads that have been reading your Superstar Blog posts will be more likely to enter the sales process more educated in your products, and what ever else you have to offer. This makes for a far more productive sales conversation than one held between two strangers.

Leads who need questions that require in-depth explanation or documented answers can simply pull an archive of blog posts. Not only do your blog posts help move the sales process, they also become a useful resource tool for leads.

4) Think long-term!

Now lets imagine? These below mentioned activities can help you drive site traffic and generate new leads:

  • Going on holiday
  • Going to the gym
  • Sleeping

Good news! This is what blogging does for you– largely through search engines. Let me break it down:

You sit for an hour and write and publish a Superstar Blog post today. Your post gets viewed and shared by your subscribers. People find it on social media read it, and they too share it! A few days later, most of the hype from that post has died down but guess what you’ve netted views and leads. Most of the work, done by your “free sales people.”

5) Ripple effects of Superstar Blogging!

There are many other reasons bloggers might want to blog, but I think they’re smaller and sway from the core benefits of Superstar Blogging.

For instance, I love to use my photo blog to teach beginner photographers the basics — before they invest a lot of money and time into their passion. I also love to use it to help other professional photographers better understand the power of online marketing in their business.

And while this shouldn’t be their primary use, blogs have also become great outlets through which advertisers can communicate PR-type important information — things like product releases, event information or even sell their products.

It’s certainly easier to get the right attention from advertisers & sponsors if you’ve built up your own audience on your own website or blog.

These are all great ripple effects or uses of a Superstar Blog. but to me this is secondary.

If you’re looking to start a blog or get more revenue for one you’ve already started, the reasons above are a great place to start!

Are you already well underway when it comes to blogging? Just starting out? Is this content helpful to you? Please leave your answers in the comment box below, I’ll be sure to check them out!

I’m back in love with Polaroid Camera’s!

I am crushing on the adorable Fujifilm Instax Mini 8! This cute instant camera uses a self-developing film to create a chemically developed print shortly after taking the photo. Fuji’s instant film products are based upon the improvements made to Polaroid’s SX-70 instant film system that the Eastman Kodak Company sold in the 1970s and 1980s.
